Priscilla Pointer, whose acting career spanned over eight decades and who was renowned for her compelling maternal roles, passed away peacefully at the age of 100. Born May 18, 1924, in New York City, she began her career on the Broadway stage in the late 1940s, appearing in classics like A Streetcar Named Desire.
Pointer’s extensive body of work included memorable roles in films such as Carrie, Blue Velvet, The Onion Field, and The Falcon and the Snowman, as well as television roles including Rebecca Barnes Wentworth on Dallas from 1981 to 1983. She frequently shared the screen with her daughter, actress Amy Irving, highlighting their real-life bond in films like Carrie (1976).
In addition to her acting, Pointer co-founded the San Francisco Actor’s Workshop with her first husband, Jules Irving. Later married to actor Robert Symonds, she balanced a prolific career with family life. Her final film role was in The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999), and her last television appearance was on Cold Case in 2006.
